Particularly in these uncertain times, virtual appointments have been offered for many more services. Virtual dentistry is an option the McLeansville Family and Cosmetic Dentistry is proud to offer to our patients. Dr. Quinn Woodruff, a dentist in McLeansville, NC, explains virtual dentistry and the benefits.
What is Virtual Dentistry?
Virtual dentistry allows you to have a dental appointment in the comfort of your own home. Using encrypted video calls, you can talk to your dentist about issues you’re having and determine a further course of action. We can give advice on smile makeovers and cosmetic procedures without you having to travel to the office.
About Doxy.me
Doxy.me is a HIPAA-complaint software that allows you to have encrypted video conferences with Dr. Woodruff. It’s free-to-use software that doesn’t require you to make an account to utilize it. The connection is encrypted when you’re on the call to ensure no one can access the conversation you’re having. No information is saved after the call is ended.
Who is Virtual Dentistry For?
Primarily, virtual dentistry is thought of as something that’s especially useful for patients who are at a higher risk of contracting COVID-19. But virtual dentistry is something that can be used for everyone. If you’re immunocompromised or even have something like a common cold, you can stay at home and avoid spreading germs and potentially getting others sick.
Virtual dentistry is also a lifesaver for those with busy schedules. While you’re coordinating your work schedule along with children that may be virtual learning or back in school, things can get hectic. It saves you a trip to our office for a consultation that can be done virtually. The Doxy.me software can be used on a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer.
Travel may also be a struggle for some patients. Many have to rely on public transportation or get a ride from someone to get to an appointment. Virtual dentistry can help. If you’ve had an appointment with someone that’s recommended treatment, we can help give you a second opinion. This can help you decide if this course of action is the right choice for you.
The Virtual Dentistry Process
If you want to schedule a virtual appointment, you can call us or choose a virtual appointment when you’re requesting one online. We’ll get in contact with you to discuss a time and date that’s best for your appointment. A link will be emailed to you. You’ll click on this link at your scheduled appointment time and be taken into a virtual waiting room. You’ll wait there until the dentist enters the room as well.
While the Doxy.me software is free to use, the dentist will charge a fee for their services. If you have dental insurance, the dentist can submit the claim to your insurance company to see if it’s covered. You’ll have a discussion that’s similar to a video call. The dentist will recommend a further course of action if needed at the end of your appointment.
